According to preliminary data, a conflict arose between the men while they were resting in the institution. The quarrel quickly turned into an aggressive argument, after which all participants went outside to “find out the relationship.”
The situation worsened on the street. One of the employees of the SBU, Dmytro Piltyai, pulled out a Glock-17 service pistol and began threatening the opponent.
In response, the man with whom they had a conflict hit the security guard on the head, causing him to fall to the ground. The assailant grabbed a weapon and fired about twelve shots in the direction of both special agents.
As a result of the shootout, Vitaly Kushnaryev was wounded in his left foot and suffered a broken nose. Dmytro Pyltaya was hospitalized with a head injury. After the incident, the attacker tried to run away, but the police quickly managed to identify him and arrest him.
Yuriy Shatalov, a 59-year-old unemployed resident of Dnipro, who confessed to the crime, turned out to be the perpetrator.
During the inspection of the scene, law enforcement officers seized a Glock-17 pistol and other physical evidence. From the testimony of eyewitnesses and on the basis of the confession, it was established that it was Shatalov who fired the shots.
