As the Daily Mail points out, this departure from tradition is due to the congestion of matches caused by the expansion of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) tournament schedule and the transfer of the FA Cup to the weekend. The EPL, as before, is obliged to broadcast 33 matches on weekends for broadcasters.
This information is not 100% confirmed at this time, but Boxing Day will most likely have one game televised, with the rest being played on Saturday, Sunday and Monday to keep up with the schedule.
“The destruction of Boxing Day is another example of the greed that reigned in the Premier League, Sky and TNT Sports are destroying everything that is good in English football,” writes the British tabloid.
Boxing Day is a long-standing tradition in which the entire Premier League tour is held the day after Christmas, December 26.
