The State Border Service of Ukraine has warned of a possible slowdown in traffic at three checkpoints on the border with Poland. The reason is the start of the new digital Entry and Exit System (EES).

According to the press service of the department, the new EES system started working on October 27 at the following checkpoints:

  • “Nižankovychy – Malhovice”;
  • “Smilnytsia – Krostsenko”;
  • “Grushiv – Budomezh”.

The State Border Service called on drivers to pay attention to the mentioned circumstances and choose alternative checkpoints for crossing the border.

As a reminder, Poland is gradually introducing the EES system: from October 20, it became operational at the Krakiwiec checkpoint, and from October 12 at the Medyka-Szehyny road border crossing and the Przemyśl-Mostyska railway crossing.

Phased implementation of EES in the European Union started on October 12 — this system automates the recording of biometric data during entry and exit and should increase the speed and accuracy of control.
