Holidays October 27, 2025 in Ukraine
Today, October 27, Ukraine is celebrating the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language — an annual celebration of the development of the state language. Since 1997, Ukraine has annually celebrated the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language, which used to fall on November 9. Due to the reform of the OCU church calendar in 2023, the event was postponed — for the first time, Ukraine celebrated the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language on October 27. On July 28, 2023, the President of Ukraine signed a decree on changing the date of the celebration from November 9 to October 27.
The postponement of the celebration of the event is connected with the transition to the New Julian calendar, because the date of establishment of the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language is determined on the day of memory of Reverend Nestor the Chronicler, a follower of the creators of the Slavic writing Cyril and Methodius.
International holidays on October 27, 2025
On October 27, the world celebrates World Audiovisual Heritage Day. It was established by Resolution 33 C/53 of the 33rd session of the UNESCO General Conference in 2005. Before that, the International Federation of Television Archives appealed to the world community to preserve language heritage. Based on the understanding that the entire audiovisual heritage will also be included in this heritage, the Intergovernmental Council of the Information for All program invited the Director-General of UNESCO to take note of this call by preparing appropriate measures.

This is a symbolic choice of date, because it was Roosevelt who became an integral part of the history of the creation of the teddy bear. The teddy bear was named after the US president after a hunting incident in 1902 when he refused to shoot a wounded bear.

Today, October 27, believers celebrate the day of memory of the holy martyr Nestor. Saint Nestor was born in Thessalonica (now Thessaloniki, Greece). He was a young man of noble origin, educated and pious. During the time of Emperor Maximian and the ruler of Thessalonica, Demetrius (the holy great martyr), Christians were brutally persecuted in the city. Nestor was a disciple and spiritual child of St. Demetrius of Thessalonica. When Nestor learned that Demetrius was imprisoned for preaching Christ, he came to him in prison, asked for blessings and prayers, so that he could courageously stand up against paganism.
At that time, gladiatorial games were held in Thessaloniki. The emperor sent to the city a huge barbarian named Liya, who killed Christians in bloody battles for fun. Nestor, full of faith, appeared in the arena and challenged Leia to a duel. And, relying on the Lord, he defeated and killed Leah, showing that the power of God exceeds any physical power. This angered Emperor Maximian, who ordered Nestor’s immediate execution. The young man was caught and cut with swords.
