19-year-old Fonseca reached the biggest final of his career at the tournament in Basel

19-year-old Brazilian tennis player Joao Fonseca (ATP 46) reached the final of the ATP 500 hard tournament in Basel, Switzerland.

In the semifinals, the young Brazilian defeated the Spaniard in two sets Jaume Munyaru (ATP 42) in 1 hour and 54 minutes.

Fonseca and Munnar held a face-to-face confrontation for the first time.

Joao reached his second Tour-level final – in February 2025, he won the ATP 250 trophy in Buenos Aires.

Fonseca became the fifth youngest finalist in the history of the 500. Joao is also the first Brazilian since 2009 to play a decisive match at an ATP 500 tournament.

In the Basel final, Fonseca will fight against either Hugo Umber or Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
