On the night of October 23, the Defense Forces of Ukraine struck the Ryazansky Oil Refinery – “a strategic object of the enemy involved in the provision of the armed forces of the Russian Federation”, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to the headquarters, explosions in the area of ​​the target and a large-scale fire on the territory of the enterprise were recorded.

The “Ryazan” oil refinery is one of the largest in the central part of the Russian Federation and belongs to the “Rosneft” company. The company’s capabilities include the processing of more than 17 million tons of oil per year and play an important role in providing fuel to the enemy’s military formations and logistical chains of providing the armed forces of the occupiers. Disabling part of the plant’s production capacity reduces the capabilities of the Russian army in conducting hostilities,” the report says.

The General Staff also adds that on the same night, Ukrainian unmanned attack systems hit the enemy’s ammunition depot in the area of ​​Valuyka, Belgorod region – according to available information, the target was destroyed, detonations and ammunition explosions were observed.

The Ukrainian military adds that the implementation of measures aimed at stopping the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine continues.

Earlier, the governor of the Ryazan region of Russia, Pavlo Malkov, announced a fire at one of the region’s enterprises as a result of the fall of the wreckage of a drone. The Russian publication Astra, citing eyewitnesses, claims that the refinery is on fire.

The current strike is not the first for this refinery. In particular, in September, the Ukrainian General Staff confirmed the previous attack on the Ryazan Refinery. As the Ukrainian command stated at the time, this refinery has a design capacity of 17.1 million tons of oil per year and is one of the four largest oil refineries in the Russian Federation. The plant produces gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, liquefied gases and other petroleum products. According to the headquarters, he is involved in the provision of the Russian army of occupation.

The Russian Ministry of Defense said that on the night of October 23, Russian air defense forces allegedly shot down or intercepted 139 drones over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Ryazan and Rostov regions of the Russian Federation.

Since the beginning of 2024, Russian refineries have been regularly attacked by Ukrainian drones. At some plants, primary oil processing units failed and required repair.

Most of the attacks were confirmed by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, stating that the Defense Forces of Ukraine “systematically implement measures aimed at reducing the combat potential of the Russian occupation forces, as well as at forcing the Russian Federation to stop armed aggression against Ukraine.”
