In Rivne, a nurse of one of the hospitals was charged with the death of a two-month-old girl from burns. Doctors are accused of official negligence.

This was reported in Rivne regional prosecutor’s office and local Department of the National Police.

The tragedy happened in December 2022. Then the two-month-old baby was brought to the hospital by his mother – the girl had to undergo a planned operation due to a congenital malformation.

During the procedure, the child was lying on his stomach. According to the investigation, the operating room nurse brought the girl an uncertified electric heater, the use of which is not provided for in the protocol.

“[Працівниця медзакладу] did not control the temperature, and the baby received a thermal burn of 45% of the body surface. The face, stomach, chest and legs were the most affected. The girl died from her injuries.”added the prosecutor’s office.

According to the medical certificate, the cause of death was scald shock and thermal burns of the body of the I-III degree, obtained as a result of contact with the heating device.

The 43-year-old nurse was informed of suspicion under part 2 of Article 140 of the Criminal Code – improper performance of professional duties. The woman faces up to three years in prison.

Investigative and procedural actions are ongoing, as well as a forensic product examination of the electric heater”the law enforcement officers added.

Earlier in Cherkasy there was suspicion due to the death of a seven-year-old child received anesthesiologist.
