Rubio, who is also Trump’s national security adviser, spoke with White House officials after speaking with Lavrov. He told them that the upcoming summit with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is unlikely to yield positive results in peace talks.
A high-ranking official of the Trump administration, whose name is not mentioned in the material, said that Lavrov’s comments confirmed the assumptions of the American administration: Russia is not ready to conclude an agreement.
At the same time, the same official noted that in a telephone conversation with Trump, which took place last week, Putin made it clear that he was ready to discuss “some issues that could overcome the differences between the positions of the United States and Russia.”
