The specialized anti-corruption prosecutor’s office announced that it will appeal against the change in the preventive measure against the former deputy chairman of the Supreme Court, reports the press service of the SAP.

On October 20, the investigating judge of the High Anti-Corruption Court changed the preventive measure against the former deputy head of the Supreme Court (2017-2022), reducing the amount of bail by almost 15 times – from 302,800,000 hryvnias to 20,000,000 hryvnias.

The prosecutor of the SAP does not agree with such a court decision and will appeal it in the court of appeal.

On August 12, 2025, the Investigating Judge of the State Criminal Court changed the preventive measure of the suspect from detention to a more lenient one – bail in the amount of 302,800,000 hryvnias. Considering the fact that the person did not post bail within 5 days, the prosecutor appealed to the court to apply a stricter preventive measure, namely detention with an alternative to bail, the anti-corruption prosecutor’s office reminds.

The name of the former deputy chairman of the Supreme Court is not specified in the SAP notification, but, judging by the plot of the case, it is about Bohdan Lviv.

Bohdan Lviv is suspected of aiding and abetting the embezzlement of the Ukrainian part of the oil pipeline “Samara – Western Direction”, which belonged to the state in the form of the State Property Fund. Damages are estimated at UAH 1.4 billion.

Also, on October 5, 2022, the Chairman of the Supreme Court, Vsevolod Knyazev, dismissed the Chairman of the Cassation Commercial Court, Bohdan Lviv, from the staff of the Supreme Court based on a letter from the Security Service of Ukraine stating that he has Russian citizenship.

On September 15 of the same year, investigative journalists of “Schem” published the investigation “Ukrainian judge with a Russian passport”, in which they provided numerous evidence from a number of sources and databases, including public ones, that the head of the Cassation Commercial Court within the Supreme Court Bohdan Lviv is a citizen of the Russian Federation. He received citizenship back in 1999 in Moscow, at that time already working as a judge in Ukraine. And in 2012, he renewed his Russian passport after reaching his 45th birthday.

Journalists established that on the day of signing the application for obtaining a passport issued on his behalf, he was in Moscow. It was under Bohdan Lviv’s Russian passport that transactions with his family’s undeclared real estate in Moscow were carried out, according to the investigation with reference to historical excerpts from the real estate register of the Russian Federation. On the day of signing this agreement, he also came to the Russian capital by train from Kyiv. His wife, who was born in Moscow, also has Russian citizenship.

In a comment to journalists before the release of the investigation, the judge himself denied that he has Russian citizenship, despite the given data.

According to the Constitution of Ukraine, the acquisition of the citizenship of another country by a judge is grounds for termination of his powers. In a comment to journalists before the release of the investigation, the judge himself stated that he does not have Russian citizenship, but asked to provide him with documents and time to “figure it out”, after which he did not provide additional evidence to support his words.

After the release of the investigation, Judge Lviv admitted that there were data on his citizenship in the Russian Federation registers, but declared that this was a “quality forgery” to “destabilize the work of the judicial system of Ukraine.” On September 26 and 28, 2022, he published posts on his Facebook page questioning certain documents from the investigation, calling it a “pure fake.”

In his detailed analysis, “A Ukrainian judge with a passport of the Russian Federation. Continuation of the “Scheme” investigation, the journalists denied Lviv’s accusations and confirmed the conclusions of their investigation step by step.
