In the evening of Sunday, October 19, the forces of the Russian Federation launched a missile attack on an energy facility in the Koryukiv district of the Chernihiv region, according to a statement from Chernihivoblenergo JSC.

According to energy experts, as a result of the attack, more than 55,000 subscribers were left without electricity.

“At 19:00, the Rashists attacked an energy facility in the territory of Koryukiv district. The damage is very significant,” the department says.

It is noted that, as soon as the security situation allows, the energy industry will begin emergency restoration work.

Earlier, Ukrenergo reported that on October 20, power outage schedules will be in effect throughout Ukraine.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia has been striking Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, the first such attacks began in October 2022. Analysts at the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) have predicted that Russia may intensify its attacks to degrade Ukraine’s energy infrastructure ahead of the coming winter.

In recent weeks, the Russian military has intensified its shelling of the Ukrainian energy and gas infrastructure, which supplies people with gas during the heating season.

In August, the Ministry of Energy reported that since March 2025, Russian forces have carried out more than 2,900 attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
