Peskov said that on the morning of August 30, Putin called Lukashenka and congratulated him on his birthday.
They also discussed current issues on the eve of Lukashenka’s visit to Russia.
According to the press service of the Kremlin, Putin and Lukashenko touched upon “some issues of bilateral cooperation and future contacts in various formats.”
Putin’s congratulatory telegram says that “Belarusian friends can always count on Russia’s support.”
In Moscow, they said that they highly appreciate Lukashenko’s efforts to strengthen allied relations between the two countries and “advance mutually beneficial integration processes in the Eurasian space.”
After the phone conversation, Lukashenko also said that Putin told him “like a close friend about the situation in Afghanistan” for half an hour.
According to Lukashenka, his proposal to hold CSTO and SCO consultations on the situation in Afghanistan is being discussed. These summits will be held in mid-September in Dushanbe.
Prehistory:
- On May 28 and 29, Oleksandr Lukashenko met with Vladimir Putin in Sochi. They discussed the tranche for Belarus, the scandal surrounding the landing of the Ryanair plane and Russia’s assistance in returning Belarusians from Europe who were stuck in EU countries due to the suspension of air traffic. Lukashenko took his son Mykola with him to the meeting.
