The Ambassador of the European Union to Ukraine, Katarina Maternova, noted significant progress in the development of distributed and decentralized energy in Ukraine.

She announced this at the Kyiv International Economic Forum.

According to Maternova, due to the destruction of the energy system in Ukraine, a consensus was formed regarding the need to invest in decentralized electricity production, which did not exist before.

The EU ambassador cited as an example the company DTEK, which recently put into operation 200 MW of energy storage facilities together with the American Fluence, which is the largest complex of this type in Ukraine.

In addition, Maternova emphasized the importance of Ukraine’s continuation of reforms in the energy sector, further integration of the energy system with the European one, as well as the reduction of monopoly due to the development of competition and the transition to market pricing. These steps allow the EU to support electricity production and distribution, helping to prepare for the heating season.

We will remind you that the Russian military is attacking energy infrastructure facilities on a large scale. Energy companies take all necessary measures to minimize negative consequences.

One or two more Russian attacks on the energy system, and Ukraine will have to start importing electricity, he said on October 13 President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
