The meeting of the government, dedicated to the preliminary conclusions of the work of the economy in 2025 and planning for the next year, took place on October 16.
“There is a recession in a number of traditional industries. Three of the five most important parameters of the forecast for this year (so far) are not fulfilled. The gross domestic product grew by less than 2% in 8 months,” Lukashenko said.

These three “failed” indicators are GDP growth, the volume of exports and the inflation rate.
Among the reasons, he cited the economic downturn in “the main partner of Belarus” – Russia.
Lukashenko expressed doubt whether the government will be able to justify the GDP growth plan for next year by 2.8%.
“Regarding the forecast for 2026: a realistic but stressful scenario is needed. So far, the picture is ambiguous,” he said.
Lukashenko demanded “precise work of the mobilization economy in the conditions of recession in the main market”, writes “Belta”. Traditionally, he blamed the government for all the problems of the Belarusian economy.
The head of the Belarusian regime also stated that it is difficult to think about macro issues in the current situation, when “a war is already raging behind one fence, and people are rushing towards it at full speed behind the other.”
In September, the Ukrainian Foreign Intelligence Service reported that Lukashenko “increased pressure” on the banking sector of Belarus in search of financing.
