Zelensky appointed Reshetylova as a military ombudsman

Literally: “Olga Reshetylova (Kobylinska) became the first military ombudsman in the history of Ukraine.” According to Reshetylova, the main priority now is the launch of the Office of the Military Ombudsman. The office of the military ombudsman will be a permanent auxiliary body under the president, which will provide civilian control over the observance of the rights of all Defense Forces – active military, fighters of voluntary formations of territorial communities, reservists on training, participants of the resistance movement in the occupation and law enforcement officers participating in combat operations. The military ombudsman will resolve service-related issues and handle complaints, may order inspections and work out solutions. We will remind: on September 19, the president signed a decree on the creation of the Office of the Military Ombudsman, as well as approved its provisions. On November 18, 2024, the then Minister of Defense Rustem Umyerov announced that a military ombudsman would appear in Ukraine to protect the rights of servicemen. Then Umerov said that the appointment would be announced soon. On November 19, 2024, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that he instructed the Ministry of Defense and the military command to select and appoint a military ombudsman in the near future. On December 30, 2024, Zelenskyi appointed Olga Reshetylova, a human rights activist, volunteer, and head of the “Media Initiative for Human Rights” to the post of presidential commissioner for the protection of the rights of servicemen and their family members.
