“The perpetrators took the victims outside the city, beat them and demanded money or valuable property. The biggest cynicism was that the attackers were mocking people who were seriously injured in the war and were undergoing rehabilitation,” the report said.
According to the police, the perpetrators took a KIA car from a 27-year-old resident of Ternopil and used it for their own purposes – law enforcement officers found the car in the territory of the Kyiv region.
“Another resident of Ternopil was forcibly pushed into a minibus using tear gas and taken out of town. There they stripped him, doused him with a flammable substance and made him run in front of a car. Later, they were beaten and held for three days in inhumane conditions,” the police say.
So far, the law enforcement officers have declared suspicions against seven persons involved.
Ternopil activist Roman Dovbenko said on Facebook that the police detained military personnel – representatives of the Third Assault Brigade.
The Third Assault Brigade responded to these reports by stating that
is open to cooperation with law enforcement agencies and expects an objective investigation.
“The Third Assault Division is one of the units with the lowest crime rate among the military. The brigade condemns violence against civilians and will contribute to the prosecution of anyone who has committed illegal actions,” the brigade said.
