Gennady Trukhanov graduated from the Odessa Higher Artillery Command School named after Frunze in 1986, receiving the title of lieutenant.
He later received his law education at the Kyiv National University of Internal Affairs, as well as the degree of Candidate of Psychological Sciences at II Mechnikov Odessa National University.
After serving in the Armed Forces, he founded the Capitan’s security firm and worked at the Lukoil company in Ukraine. In 2005, he became a deputy of the Odessa City Council for the first time, and since 2010 he headed the Party of Regions faction.
In 2012 he became a People’s Deputy, but after the Revolution of Dignity left the party. In 2014, he won the election of the mayor of Odessa and reversed three times, staying up to the present moment.
His political career was marked by a number of scandals. According to the documents of the Panama Archive, Trukhanov had ties with dozens of offshore companies. In 2018, he became a figure in the case of buying a building of the Krayan plant with a 17 -fold overpayment, but was later justified.
Trukhanov has repeatedly stated that criminal prosecutions against him were political.
After the invasion of the Russian Federation in 2022, he condemned aggression, but later called for “compromise”. He opposed the demolition of the monument to Catherine II, but after the vote of Odessa agreed to dismantle it.
Recently, petitions have appeared on the website of the Presidential Office demanding to deprive the mayor of Ukraine and introduce a military administration in Odessa.
The reason was information about his possible Russian passport, the emergence of pro -Russian narratives in his statements and the tragedy on September 30, when ten people were killed as a result of rain.
According to sources, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has already signed the decision to deprive Gennady Trukhanov of Ukrainian citizenship. Oleg Tsarev and Sergey Polunin lost his citizenship with him.
We will remind, Trukhanov denied the existence of a passport of the Russian Federation and stated that he wanted to deprive him of Ukrainian citizenship.
Zelensky also considers the creation of the city military administration in Odessa.
