“Open sources have repeatedly appeared materials of journalistic investigations, which contain data on the presence of Gennady Trukhanov’s passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation and the Russian tax number. These facts indicate that Gennady Trukhanov has dual citizenship, which is contrary to the Constitution of Ukraine, which establishes the principle of a single citizenship. In the face of a full -scale war with the Russian Federation, this situation creates potential risks to national security and undermines citizens’ confidence in local authorities, ”the petition reads.
“We ask you to provide a verification of the presented fact for dual citizenship Gennady Trukhanov and, in case of confirmation, to apply the mechanisms provided by law,” the document stated.
The author of the petition is Myroslav Otkovich-journalist, serviceman, presenter of the 241st separate brigade of the territorial defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Trukhanov October 12 stated that he was “preparing another provocation.” “Information is spreading that I allegedly have a Russian Federation’s citizenship. This issue is not new – it has been raised since 2014. Since 2014, I have constantly explained that I did not have and never had Russian citizenship. He noted that he received this data from “fused Russian bases”.
Ukrainian journalists have repeatedly written that the mayor of Odessa probably has Russian citizenship. In 2016, the Odessa Office of the Security Service of Ukraine could not find out whether Gennady Trukhanov has a passport of the Russian Federation.
