You come in different condition, many injuries, and you always feel this pressure, especially in qualifying matches. There is less pressure in the friendly matches, but it is, because you need to show good football and win the match. And when you play in qualifying matches on which the future depends, entering the World or Europe Championship is a great pressure. You play for your country and do everything possible. Yes, of course, sometimes it does not work, but it is life.
– What would I like to say to Ukrainian fans on the eve of important matches?
– Patience. I will not say “support us” because someone supports, someone does not want, someone pours a lot of criticism. It’s normal, it’s even right – after some matches we deserve it. I want to wish patience, and if they can, let them get sick for us.
– Let’s talk about the lion of the match. Do you follow this? Do you ask you to vote?
– No, of course. This is more, perhaps, a prize from fans. This is such an activity for our fans, but from a professional point of view, apparently, in 80% of cases, I would not agree with the award. Why? In some matches, there is a clear lion of the match: he scored a goal or goalkeeper pulled several incredible saves. But, from a professional point of view, for example, the central midfielder played a very cool match – he selected all the balls, did not miss a single counterattack, did everything well in the attack, but it is invisible. As Taras Stepanenko once said, here’s the star, and I want to be this black canvas behind it to glow more. Sometimes such football players do not notice the fans on the field, but professionals see it. So I say: 80% of lions of matches – I do not agree, because sometimes it’s just funny.
