On October 8, Ukrainian lawyers celebrate a professional holiday established by Presidential Decree No. 1022/97 of September 16, 1997.
The date was chosen in honor of the historical event – in October 1016 after the battle between the princes Svyatopolk and Yaroslav the Wise, the Russian Truth, one of the oldest legal codes of Kievan Rus, was launched.
The number 8 is chosen through simple mathematics: the sum of the digits of 1016 gives this date (1+0+1+6 = 8).
The Russian Truth became the foundation of the legal system of the Kyiv state and regulated social relations for centuries.
