In 2001, S Club 8 (previously known as S Club Juniors) was created as a teen spin-off of the hugely successful British band, S Club 7.

The pre-teens aged 11 to 12 were chosen from thousands of hopefuls on the television series S Club Search, with the band being formed as a junior support act to the main pop group.

Kicking her career off as a child, Frankie Sandford (as she was then known) was selected as a member of the group, which disbanded four years later in 2005.

The band had success over the four years, releasing singles, One Step Closer, Automatic High, New Direction, and Puppy Love/Sleigh Ride.

However, Frankie revealed that she didn’t manage to keep a single penny from her early pop career, despite leaving school and dedicating years to this role.

‘I think my parents always felt like they allowed me to work from such a young age that they were unable to tell me what to use my money for and what to spend it on. We didn’t have loads and loads.’

She added of the control she had: ‘I was in control of it to a certain extent. I remember I had my own bank card. I think I only just closed it down like last week,’ she said.

She added that as part of S Club 8, she was given some financial advice: ‘They helped me to invest little bits. But at the time I had no mortgage, no bills, no nothing, I wasn’t really thinking about it.

‘But when I look back, it wasn’t as much money as I thought it was. It would have been nice to have some of it left.’

She added that she didn’t really remember much of her time in the band, and added that being in the band meant she was homeschooled in her teen years and struggled to make decisions for herself after being in the band.

The group has had various hits, including: Up, Issues, Just Can’t Get Enough, and Work.

Since 2011, Frankie has been in a relationship with footballer Wayne Bridge. The couple married in a private ceremony in 2014 and have two sons together.
