From the beginning of a full -scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, almost a thousand has reached the number of criminal cases initiated against military criminal cases on premeditated murder and causing serious harm that caused the death of a person. Cases against servicemen are being considered by military courts. In 2022, these courts received 38 cases of murder and grievous bodily injuries that caused death. Since then, the number of such cases increased-in 2023 there were 266, in 2024-346. In the nine months of 2025, 377 such criminal cases were received by the courts.

Mediazon notes that the number of violent crimes committed by military in Russia has increased continuously over three and a half years of the war. For the first time, the number of sentences on murder, grievous bodily harm and violent sexual actions has increased significantly in the first six months of 2023 and has increased since then. The statistics of military courts do not include crimes of war participants in Ukraine, who were no longer military personnel at the time of committing crimes.
