Government proposes to increase defense expenditures: Shmigal told where they plan to take funds

On October 6, the Cabinet of Ministers approved changes to the state budget for 2025. In particular, the expenditures of the Ministry of Defense are proposed to increase by a total of UAH 311 billion, Minister Denis Shmigal said.

According to him, the funds are planned to be directed to cover priority needs:

• purchase of weapons (including drones), ammunition, military equipment, equipment
• timely payments to servicemen
• Social support for military families

“We clearly understand which sources these expenditures will be covered. These are funds within the ERA initiative, reduction of non -primary budget expenditures, saving funds for public debt and other articles, ”said the Ministry of Defense.

Shmigal added that the government adapts the budget “to the realities of the modern war”.

Earlier, Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko reported that the Cabinet has approved changes to the state budget for 2025, providing an additional UAH 324.7 billion for defense. Of this amount, more than 310 billion is planned to be directed to the General Fund.

In particular, 202 billion is proposed to direct the military, 100 – into service, 8 billion – for other military expenses.

Sviridenko added that the government is counting on the rapid adoption of changes in parliament.
