The video was released by the State CCTV: it shows one of the machines with a soil coating, without a radio absorption layer, as well as production lines at Shenyang Aircraft Corporation (SAC).
According to official reports, the J-35 was adopted in 2025. Some specimens are already carrying out flight tests from the deck of a new Fujian Chinese Air carrier; At the same time, there are an unknown number of machines at different stages of manufacture. The planes tested from the deck have a standard for Chinese deck aircraft symbolism – the image of a shark on kily. Four onboard numbers are known: 61820–61823.
The J-35 developed from the FC-31 project (project 310)-an export stealth fighter with two engines and two inclined tail stabilizers, visually close to the solution used in the F-35. The first flight prototype (350001/3501) rose into the air on October 29, 2021, equipped with WS-21 Chinese engines (H). Although it was initially reported that the J-35 is prepared for the Type-003 project, satellite images of 2021–2024 showed the preparation of aircraft for Fujian and Liaoning aircraft carriers.
What is known about J-35China positions J-35 as a modern combat aircraft with:
- onboard radar on an active phased antenna lattice (AFFA);
- Optical-electronic system of targeting in the area of the nasal rack of the chassis (similar approaches to F-35);
- Internal compartments for weapons that reduce the effective area of reflection of radio waves, but at the same time limit the number of internal missiles.
Such a stealth focus layout is a compromise between low-quality and combat capability in terms of internally transferred weapons.
J-35 is currently considered the second specialized deck of a new generation of a specialized deck fighter after the American F-35. This demonstrates the accelerated development of the Chinese aviation industry and Beijing’s desire to have their own modern aircraft for maritime aviation.
There are no planned production volumes. However, given the plans to equip a ticket with several aircraft carriers (Fujian and the announced new ship), as well as the potential interest of export clients, the total amount of J-35 can reach about 100 units or more in the future.
