He warned that if, after a planned meeting with Trump on Alaska, on August 15, Putin continues to kill civilians in Ukraine, the US president will be forced to respond severely.
Calling himself a “realistic optimist”, Stubb called for supporters of Ukraine to be patient.
“He had the opportunity to work closely with President Trump for the last few months. Optimism may sometimes be intuition, but the places on the ground now indicate that we are moving in the right direction,” Finland said.
With regard to the role of Europe in the support of Kiev, Stubb strongly supported the steps aimed at accelerating Ukraine’s accession to the EU by finding a way to bypass the veto of Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban.
