The UN report mentioned the “Dr. Evil” on the investigation of “schemes”, which was tortured by Ukrainian prisoners in Mordovia

The report published on the United Nations website mentions Ilya Sorokin – a doctor of colony # 10 in Mordovia in Russia, nicknamed “Doctor Evil”, who humiliated, tortured Ukrainian prisoners of war and did not provide them with medical assistance that, in some cases, several prisoners could lead. His identity was previously identified in the investigation by Scheme (Radio Liberty) journalists. The evidence of the former prisoners against him is given by the UN Human Rights Special Rights Rights River in his report, which captures a further “steady deterioration” of human rights situation in Russia.

Katsarova’s report states that Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilians, which were kept in the Mordovian colony in the period from February 2023 to April 2025 “were systematically subjected to torture, often by medical staff.”

One doctor of the colony, notes the special correspondent, nicknamed the “Dr. Evil” and identified as Elijah Sorokin, “regularly beat the prisoners with rubber sticks and used the stunning stun.” And when the prisoners asked him for medical care, he “beat them with electric shock and mocked their pain.”

The report also mentions the Ukrainian prisoner in colony # 10 – Volodymyr Yukhimenko, who was also mentioned in their investigation. Since 2015, Yukhimenko served in the anti-terrorist operation, in April 2022 he was captured near Tokmak. After Crimea and colonies in Borisoglebsk and Pakino, it was transported to Mordovia on June 26, 2023, where his condition deteriorated sharply. In prison, Yukhimenko began problems with the psyche, he was strongly beaten. At the request of his companions for help, Ilya Sorokin did not respond, on the contrary, he incited the protection of even more to beat the sick captive. Russia officially recorded his death on September 1, 2023, and later the Ukrainian expertise established pneumonia, beatings, fractures and hemorrhages on the body.

“One of the most difficult for documentary confirmation, but the latest opening in this report – Russian doctors and medical staff were directly involved or were accomplices of torture of Ukrainian prisoners,” – said Mariana Katsarova, presenting a report at the UN.

In July 2025, “Schemes” published an investigation into the systematic torture of Ukrainian prisoners of war in colony # 10 in Mordovia in Russia. The journalists were able to identify the doctor with the help of the testimonies of the former prisoners, who were kept there from February 2023 to April 2025, and open sources-in particular, photos and videos of staff of the health part serving the colony.

From the sources in the law enforcement agencies of “Schemes” received data on 177 Ukrainian prisoners of war, which managed to return from Mordovskaya colony No. 10. Journalists talked to several of them. The former prisoners told about a physician who mocked them and did not provide adequate medical care. The prisoners did not know his real name and only a few of them saw his face, most heard only voice. They called him Dr. Evil.

“Schemes” set his identity using the Federal Sentence Service of the Mordovia punishment-from which they learned that this colony # 10 is served by Med parts with the same number, which, in turn, is a branch of the medical part # 13. On the pages of Russian MSC №13 on social networks, journalists found photos and videos from health workers where they are open.

Journalists selected general photos and provided them for identification of about 150 former prisoners. Not everyone answered, but most pointed to one of the health workers – he was an active participant in trade union speeches, and in social networks was friends with many workers of the Mordovian colony.

The decisive proof was found by “schemes” of a video from the event organized by the medical unit # 13 and dedicated to the “Day of the Medical Service of the Criminal Enforcement System” of Russia. He can not only look well at the doctor, but also hear his voice. After viewing this record, about half a hundred surveyed military confirmed the person.

It is Ilya Sorokin, he is 35, he has two children. Earlier in social networks, he openly pointed out the place of work-“Health and Sanitary Unit 13 FSVP of Russia”. In the origins of Russian databases, “Schemes” found his income data in this medical unit – in particular, to a full -scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine. In 2018, he received almost 560 thousand rubles, and in 2021-680 thousand rubles. In terms of dollars, it is about 9 thousand a year.

In 2022, Sorokin outlined a diploma on the social network, stating that he was awarded “for conscientious fulfillment of public duties and active participation in the life of the team.” The diploma explicitly states that it works in a medical unit that serves the colony # 10.

Sorokin, in the investigation, has a typical Russian family: his father nostalga for the USSR and Stalin, his sister – the wife of a paratrooper from Tula. Sorokin himself participates in parades on May 9 with portraits of relatives, wearing Soviet uniform and “St. George’s tapes”. After the occupation he visited Crimea. Today in his social networks there are covers with Z-symbols and support of the Russian army.

Journalists contacted Sorokin. When asked about bullying Ukrainian prisoners, he briefly answered: “It cannot be such. I’m not working there. ”

The fact that Sorokin worked in the colony was confirmed by a specialist in the field of medical parts # 133 Tatiana Zhuravlev. When asked if Sorokin was working there, she said that yes and reported that he would return to work after serving in the army.

According to journalists, at the end of 2024 Sorokin went to serve. He took the call sign “and probably now serves in the forces of logistics of the army of the Russian Federation. Regularly encountered with colleagues from the medical unit, receiving help from them for the unit-in particular, equipment, medicines and camouflage nets, which, as it turned out, supplies its native 10 colony.

In the investigation, journalists also identified the health care workers # 13, which includes doctors of the colony. According to the prisoners, no physician provided them with proper help. Separately “schemes” were installed by the persons of those employees of the colony who provided its work – carried out protection, searched staff, responsible for discipline and life in the camp. Schemes also named the names of the colony’s leadership. It, according to prisoners, not only knew what was happening, but probably gave appropriate orders.
