According to Kravchenko, these 178 accidents, whose investigations lasted more than 3-5 years, led to the death of 69 people, including three children, and to severe injuries in 99 people, including nine children.
Last week, the prosecutor’s office declared suspicion of all these proceedings:
- 159 suspicion for violation of traffic safety rules (Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
- 18 Suspicion Drivers in a state of alcohol intoxication (Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
- 1 suspicion for the commissioning of technically faulty transport (Article 287 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
- 1 suspicion for violation of the rules concerning road protection (Article 288 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The Prosecutor General emphasized that the main causes of fatal accidents are a violation of traffic and driving rules in a state of intoxication. All 178 cases are now under the control of the Attorney General and the heads of regional prosecutors. The purpose is to restore justice and punish the perpetrators to prevent impunity in the future.
Meanwhile, the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv continued a preventive measure of the former prosecutor’s office, suspected of a deadly road accident in which a 61-year-old woman was killed.
