The first lady of Ukraine reminded that the New York Metropolitan Opera refused to cooperate with Anna Netrebko.

She expressed her opinion in an interview with The Times.
“I was unpleasant when Anna Netrebko was again invited to speak at the Royal Opera House. I know that many representatives of the cultural and artistic elite, as well as politicians opposed this decision. But it still happened,” she said.
According to her, as well as human health consists of physical and mental, the war is not only on the front line, but also through culture:
“The country can lose its impact in one place, but get a lot through sports, diplomacy, even a kitchen. When people see a wonderful performance and hear a beautiful voice, they think:” Wow, perhaps, the country that raised such a singer is not so bad. ”
When asked if she feels a devoted royal opera theater for accepting Netrebko, Zelenskaya answered that she is more sad. At the same time, she recalled that the New York Metropolitan Opera refused to cooperate with Netrebko, despite financial penalties:
“They did it from the principle. But we cannot be offended if not everyone gets up next to us, holding hands.”

This caused a wave of protests, the activists called on to cancel its participation in the production.
The Ambassador of Ukraine in the United Kingdom Valery Zaluzhny spoke against Netrebko’s speech, noting that it would not look like an evening of high art for Ukrainians.
