Spalding United defender Lewis White added 200 miles onto his journey by heading to the wrong BuryCredit: GettyWhite was making his own journey to face Bury Town, who are based in Suffolk town Bury St Edmunds, from his home in Leicestershire.
But after arriving at what he thought was the home of Bury Town, White realised he had actually driven to Bury FC’s Gigg Lane in Greater Manchester.
The incredible error meant the 24-year-old was forced to turn around and head back down the A14 to drive three hours to Bury Town’s Getaway Cars Stadium.
In total, White reportedly drove SEVEN HOURS as a result of his gaffe.
He was brought on as a late defensive substitute to help Spalding hold on to their 2-1 lead after they went down to ten men following a second-half sending off.
Spalding manager Jimmy Dean said after the game: “I actually asked the people at Bury if it had ever happened before and they said it hadn’t.
“He must have been in a world of his own but he’s come and helped see the game out for us and it’s always a fantastic feeling to win a midweek match.”
When approached for comment a club spokesperson told The Guardian: “We would like to solely focus on preparing for a huge game for us at the weekend.”

Thankfully there shouldn’t be any confusion for White ahead of Spalding’s FA Cup Third Round qualifier against National League South side Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday.
However, he ought to brush up on his geography soon with a fixture against Cambridgeshire-based St Ives Town on the horizon.
The defender would be wasting plenty more petrol if he found himself heading all the way down to Cornwall and turning up at the wrong St Ives.
