“The European Union agreed to continue temporary protection because the war has not been over. We have proposed to do the same in Lithuania with the help of this government resolution,” said Prime Minister Rimantas Sadzhius at a government meeting.
According to the Lithuanian Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Lithuanian Migration Department registers about 30-40 new applications for temporary residence on the basis of temporary protection for those who cannot return to their country daily.
Currently, the residence permit issued to Ukrainians is valid until March 4, 2026. According to the government’s decision, their term will be extended for another 12 months.
The norm, according to which foreigners who work in Lithuania under temporary protection, will also be extended. In July, the government decided that refugees from the hostage zone would not be obliged to speak Lithuania until they have temporary protection status.
The Lithuanian government also pledged to provide medical rehabilitation and psychiatric assistance to minors, which were transported from Ukraine to Russia and then returned.
“Children will be placed in institutions that offer inpatient medical rehabilitation, with the provision of accommodation and nutrition to adults who accompany them,” the Ministry reported.
