Details: Gardt called on German Finance Minister Lars Klingbayl, who represents the Social Democratic Party, to be more serious about the budget requests of the Minister of Defense Boris Panstorius for military assistance to Ukraine for 2026.

The prerequisite for this was that KlingBayl rejected the budget requests of the Pistorius to increase assistance to Ukraine for budget reasons.
“Unfortunately, security policy is developing even less favorably after the Chancellor Scholz’s speech on the” turning point “in 2022 and decisions on special funds since the spring of 2025,” the CDU representative said.
He mentioned the incident with the violation of Poland’s airspace by Russian drones, noting that Moscow was “testing borders”.
According to Gardt, a high level of restraint, in particular in Ukraine, is the best guarantee of “that we will go through this difficult stage of European security policy well and peacefully.”
Recall:
- Even under the previous government, Olaf Scholtz, Germany approved the allocation of additional EUR 3 billion in Ukraine in 2025 and another 8.3 billion euros in 2026-2029.
- In June, Germany’s Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced that the German side would provide Ukraine with an additional military assistance worth 1.9 billion euros-that is, a total of about 9 billion euros in 2025.
