Details: The Cabinet of Ministers of Latvia supported the Project of the Resolution on the allocation of EUR 5 million to the NATO and the USA initiative to support Ukraine.

According to the Government’s decision, Latvia’s contribution in 2025 will be 5 million euros, of which 3 million euros will be allocated from the budget of the Ministry of Defense, and 2 million euros from the budget of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“We need to continue to support Ukraine in all possible ways, as it is the only way to strengthen its ability to protect our sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as to win the fight against the aggressor state, Russia,” said Defense Minister Andris Prauds.
According to him, Purl initiative is a way to provide Ukraine with American weapons, which “has already increased its combat capabilities in critical moments to keep the front line, carry out a counter -offensive and demonstrate the support of Ukraine by the United States.”
The Baiba Foreign Minister broke out that Latvia’s financial contribution to the acquisition of US weapons to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine is a clear signal of the readiness of NATO and his allies to meet the priority military needs of Ukraine and strengthen collective security in Europe.
“Latvia’s contribution is a political and practical demonstration of solidarity, which confirms Latvia’s readiness with the allies to protect the international order from Russian aggression,” she added.

- Belgium recently announced the allocation of EUR 100 million, while Canada – $ 500 million, Germany – $ 500 million, and Lithuania – $ 30 million.
- Luxembourg and Estonia also plan to join the financing of US weapons for Ukraine.
