“The former World Champion had a vague battle, but overcame the American by a judicial decision”, – WRITE: Sport.ua
Waldez seized control of the center of the ring from the first seconds, but did not force the events – he pressed his opponent, tasted it to the ropes, periodically threw out single accentuated blows.
Medina in some episodes exploded in counterattacks – as soon as the American increased the speed of battle, Oscar had significant problems. The starting rounds spent better Waldes, but closer to the equator, the Mexican slowed too much because of fatigue.
Medina gradually took the initiative, got more often and more precisely. He moved well on his feet. Waldez missed a lot, so we had to clinch constantly. After the final gong, Mexican commentators and journalists agreed that their boxer had lost this fight, but the judges’ decision surprised everyone.
They saw a confident and unanimous victory for the former champion. A very unexpected and contradictory result.
Waldez Oscar (Mexico) – Richard Medina (USA) – UD 10 (100–90, 98–92, 97–93)
