The famous van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam can close if the government does not fund repairs.

The museum, which exhibits such famous paintings as “almond flower” and one of the variants of the Vase with sunflowers, has been operating since 1973. During this time, almost 57 million people visited it.
But now, according to the director Emily Gordenker, the building is in such a bad condition that it requires urgent and major repairs to maintain the invaluable collection and security of visitors.
“If we do not solve the issue of major repairs to be done, we will have to close,” she said in a comment on the Associated Press.
She said that a 50-year-old state-owned building needs “overhaul”. According to her, two -year talks with the government did not resolve a dispute on paying repairs. The repair is expected to begin in 2028, will last three years and cost 104 million euros.
She said that during the reconstruction, the museum will be partially closed and therefore earn less than ticket sales. She said that the museum was asking the state to finance basic service.
