The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy, sent an official request to the organizers of the Venice Film Festival, demanding to remove the Russian flag located on the main square of the event. The relevant information was published in the joint declaration of agencies.
– The festival started by demonstrating its own tragicomedy, which can be considered the first of its kind. Under this symbol, the Russian army is currently committing crimes against Humanity. Only today the invaders fired at Kiev and other Ukrainian cities, taking away at least 21 people, including four minors. However, the management of the festival ignores these facts, worsening the image of the event, – said in the address.
The document emphasizes that the key step for the organizers should be “complete exclusion of Russian presence and its state symbols”.
– While Russia has the opportunity to freely choose the methods of destruction of the civilian population of Ukraine, giving it a cultural platform is not a freedom of creativity, but a manifestation of cynicism, indifference and approval of terrorist activity, – the statement added.
- The 82nd Venice International Film Festival will last from August 27 to September 6.
