The nominees for the award will be known on January 22 / photo ua.depositphotos.comThe Ukrainian Oscar Committee chose the 2000 meters to Andriyivka for participation in the Oscar Prize in the Best International Film Film category.
It is known that the film is a new work of Mstislav Chernov, director of the picture “20 days in Mariupol”, which in 2024 received “Oscar” as the best documentary. At the same time, Chernov became the first Ukrainian director whose tape managed to reach the nomination in the “Best International Film Film” category:
“It is an uncompromising and piercing documentary that immerses the reality of the Russian -Ukrainian war through human experience – brittle, grueling and at the same time full of dignity. At the same time, this Ukrainian film should become even more visible in the world, because it speaks on behalf of those who protect their freedom every day.”
Of the eight applications submitted to others were Stanislav Tiunov’s tapes, “Virgo” Dmitry Greshko, “Careful! Life continues” Anton’s thing, “One summer in Ukraine” by Vladimir Tykhoi, “Lifting Power” by Alexander Stratienko, “Stepne” Marina.
Chernov noted that it is a great honor for him to represent Ukraine at a prestigious prize. According to him, the team will do everything possible for the voices of Ukraine and its defenders to be heard.
“It seems particularly important now when there is a massive shelling of Kiev in the morning. I get the news of the selection while I take off how civilians get from the rubble. And it imposes even more responsibility on us, documentaries, artists – to speak with the world, to shout to him, even when it was.”
What is known about 2000 meters to AndreevkaThe tape tells about the tiny village of Andreevka ten kilometers from Bakhmut, which became the arena of fierce fighting during the Ukrainian counter -offensive in 2023. 3 The assault brigade from the liberation of the village separates only two kilometers of forest strips, littered with mines where the enemy dug. Fighters, once civilians, overcome this path to return to Ukraine its territory.
The film’s operator was a documentary photographer Alex Babenko. The producers were Michelle Mysner and Rhine Aronson-Rat, and the music was created by the Gremmi Music Laureate.
The world premiere took place at the Sandent Festival, where Chernov received a reward for the best director’s work in the World Cinema Documentary program. In Ukraine, the tape was first shown on Docudays UA, where she won three awards.
