XAI and X Ilona Maska filed a lawsuit against Openai and Apple, accusing companies of creating illegal monopolies in the AI and mobile application market. The claim was filed on August 25, 2025 to the California Federal Court, reports The Verge.

Musk claims that Chatgpt integration into the iPhone within Apple Intelligence gives OpenAi an unfair advantage: users are allegedly “imposing” the use of Chatgpt, which reduces interest in extraneous Shi-decisions, including Grok Chatbota from XAI. The lawsuit also states that the App Store lowers the visibility of competitors in sections such as “Must-Have Apps”, where Chatgpt was the only SI application as of August 24.

In addition, the claim accuses Apple of using its dominant position in the smartphone market to create a “protective barrier” for Openai, since the integration of Chatgpt in the iPhone gives the company access to billions of users’ requests.

Apple had previously denied Mask’s accusation, stating that the App Store algorithms were “adopted to be honest and impartial.” Openai in a comment to The Verge called the lawsuit another “pressure attempt” from the mask.
