“It was not my first call. In fact, it was my fifth or sixth call for dialogue, for an open discussion. I even offered them open television. They can choose a place, they can choose a studio,” he said.
The Serbian president added that although his latest public negotiation proposal was rejected, he remains in force.
“My proposal will remain in force until they (protesters. – Ed.) Will not accept it, because one day they will have to talk to someone,” Vuchich said.
Protests throughout Serbia have been lasting for nine months. Their starting point was the tragedy in November 2024 in the new garden, when 16 people were killed at the renovated railway station. Protesters are guilty of a tragedy for corruption and demand early elections in the hope of eliminating Vuchich from the authorities.
They also blame the government of violence against political opponents and suppressing the media freedom. The government rejects all these accusations.
The demonstrations remained mostly peaceful until the beginning of this month, when dozens of police and civilians were injured during clashes and hundreds of people were detained.
The second and last five -year presidential term of Vicich ends in 2027, when the parliamentary elections should take place.
Student representatives said they were ready for debate with Vuchich only during the election campaign.
