Dozens of supercars descend on posh footballers’ haven despite cops issuing ban

DOZENS of supercars descended on a posh village known to be a haven for football stars, despite cops issuing a band.

Police have been cracking down on illegal car meets in the area, but a number have still taken place in recent weeks.

Police placed a dispersal order on the area over the weekendCredit: ZenpixA 36-hour dispersal order was placed on Alderley Edge and parts of the A34 amid reports of a planned car meet for the Bank Holiday on social media.

Alderley Edge is part of Cheshire’s ‘Golden Triangle’ – an affluent area of small towns and villages popular with wealthy Premier League footballers and celebrities.

Luxury vehicles, like Ferraris, Rolls Royce’s and Lamborghini’s worth over £1 million are a common sight in Alderley Edge.

Hundreds of people are known to attend these events, which see high-end cars driven through the affluent streets of Cheshire.

The order was put in place following multiple reports of offences being committed on the A34 over the last few weeks.

Officers have been trying to tackle the dangerous driving that occurs during the meets, as well as excessive noise and anti-social behaviour which has caused “alarm” and “distress” to local residents.

Residents have also raised safety concerns and made complaints about the noise of engines revving, cars parking throughout neighbourhood, as well as mounting pavements, roundabouts, and grass verges.

Cheshire Police granted a dispersal order from 10am yesterday to 10pm tonight, giving the police the power to remove anyone suspected of committing crime or anti-social behaviour in the area.

But cars were seen descending on the streets of Alderley Edge and the A34 from about 3pm on Saturday.

Chief Insp Zoe Bowden said: “I understand the frustration and anger that illegal car meets cause, and I hope that this dispersal order will provide reassurance to local residents by demonstrating that we are taking action.

“This is an ongoing problem in the local area, and I want to reassure residents that we are committed doing all we can to tackle the issue.

“We have a zero-tolerance approach to those who break the law, and I want to make it clear that action will be taken against anyone who breaches the dispersal order this weekend.”

Actions by police to combat disruption caused by the meets taking over the village include vehicle seizures, penalty notices, notifying insurance companies, or arrest and prosecution if deemed necessary.

She added: “This order is not aimed at people meeting in their cars peacefully, simply those disrupting local communities and acting in an anti-social manner.

False messages reportedly spread on social media claiming that the meet had been approved by police, which Cheshire authorities moved to dispel last week.

Chief Inspector Bowden said at the time: “There seems to be an assumption amongst attendees that these events have been authorised by Cheshire Police and local councils.

“I can say categorically, that this is not the case and the constabulary has no involvement in their organisation and I would urge anyone planning to attend to seriously reconsider doing so.”
