The Ukrainian cheese industry leaves the off -season period – companies are preparing to increase the need for products for the end of the summer season. It can provoke an increase in the value of goods. Agroweek reports details.

Price rise: sources and effects A key factor in the potential increase in cheese prices is the recent increase in milk value. This is able to impair the competitive advantages of Ukrainian companies, as seasonal sales increase can be made mainly through imported goods. Due to the receipt of the more accessible European cheeses, local producers face acute competition.

In July 2025, the import of solid and semi -solid cheeses to Ukraine increased by 12% relatively last year’s indicators. This increase in import deliveries increases the pressure on domestic enterprises and impairs their position in the domestic market.

Exports and sectoral difficulties Despite the growth of imports, Ukrainian manufacturers demonstrate success in external deliveries. For example, in July, the exports of semi -solid cheeses increased by 28% compared to last year’s period. Even higher growth rates are recorded for cheese products – their export has doubled in the same time. Experts explain this by the loss of competitive advantages of Russian goods in the markets of Central Asia. Considering such conditions, manufacturers are advised to carefully form a pricing strategy to protect market positions both domestically and abroad.

“For 2025, the general trend of increasing the cost of production is projected. This is natural because of the rise in costs, especially for raw materials (flour), fuel resources and salaries. By the end of the year, prices are expected to increase by 15-20%by the end of the year,”-said Director of Kyiv Bread LLC Yuri Duchenko during the bread.

Duchenko noted that many bakery is now working on the verge of profitability, and some are in loss. Analyzing the prospects of the industry for 2025, he emphasized the increase in demand for bread of simple recipes in quantitative terms. At the same time, sales of wheat, bakery and confectionery are reduced, which indicates a decline in interest in more profitable products in natural indicators.

Among the key problems, the expert identified the depletion of working capital due to low profitability, dependence on energy resources, falling of the solvency of the population, complexity of logistics, export restrictions and expansion of the shadowy sector, which reaches 40-50%.
