In the first six months of 2025, Ukrainian banks earned UAH 100.06 billion before taxes – almost as much as in the same period last year. Tax deductions amounted to UAH 21.99 billion – about 22% of profit.

After paying taxes in the sector, UAH 78.07 billion remained, although not all institutions have worked successfully: 13 banks have fixed losses, so every fifth bank in the country is currently non -profit.
Only part of a third of profitable banks could improve the positive dynamics. The absolute record holder was Metabank, whose profit increased 118 times, and PrivatBank demonstrated a stable growth by 14%.
The composition of the top 10 largest banks has not changed, and together they provided UAH 68.05 billion in profit-87% of the total salary of the sector.
Almost half of the profit of all Ukrainian banks is in PrivatBank – UAH 34.88 billion in profits and UAH 11.09 billion in taxes. Only the first investment (-29.43 million UAH) recorded the losses among state-owned banks.
The Bank Motor this year, on the contrary, for the first time in a long time recorded profits. In general, the profit of a group of state banks increased by 4% compared to the same period last year – mainly at the expense of the leader.
Among foreign banks, on the contrary, the profit was asked for almost a quarter – up to UAH 16.57 billion, and Raiffeisen remains the leader – +10% of growth, UAH 4.74 billion in profit and UAH 1.66 billion of tax.
Banks with private capital are also in the minus for a quarter, their profit amounted to UAH 10.06 billion.
PUMB remains the first of UAH 3.57 billion – 7% until last year, and together with the Universal Bank (monobank) they received 59% of the group’s profit. More than a quarter of the country’s private banks in the first half of 2025 was closed with losses.
Recall that the government will reduce the share of the state in the banking sector. For this purpose, two large banks are being prepared for the sale of the action – the meaning of the bank and the Ukrgasbank, which are now owned by the state.
In the second quarter of 2025, Ukrainian banks noted the increase in demand from business and the population for loans. For the first time from the first quarter of 2024, it is expected to improve the quality of corporate and consumer loans.
