The Russian Foreign Ministry reminded that in 2024 it was achieved by the removal of two of the five arbitrators by signing their declarations with the condemnation of the actions of the Russian Federation. But the arbitrators that replaced them were elected without the involvement of the Russian side and made “anti -Russian statements”.
“In this situation, Russia is forced to get out of the process. No decision of such” arbitrators “will have legal force and will not be recognized by the Russian Federation,” the department said.
Prehistory:
- In April 2019, Ukraine launched international arbitration against the Russian Federation on the illegal seizure of three Ukrainian naval ships and 24 members of their crews.
- In November 2020, the UN Arbitration Tribunal on the Maritime Law divided into two parts of the lawsuit of Ukraine against the Russian Federation on the detention of Ukrainian sailors and ships in the Kerch Strait.
- The last decision of the tribunal in July 2022 has confirmed its jurisdiction on the claim of Ukraine against Russia.
