-Football players and basketball players mention that in the early 1990s wages were scanty-sometimes even paid products or equipment. And how was it in hockey?
-Speaking of the early 1990s, the salary was $ 100-200, a maximum of 300. When I went to the United States in 1995-1996, it could already earn $ 800-1000, sometimes more, but it was a rarity.
– You spent four years in the US. How did this option come about and how did this period go?
– Honestly, I got everything from a place to the quarry. By the time I was driving, I had no suggestions. I was invited there, there is such an agent for all Ukrainians, Vlad Shashkovsky. He then attached many Ukrainians to North America.
I called him then, asked if he could help me. He said I was remembered since the USSR youth national team. He assured that he could find me a contract.
He then did in Calgary camps for hockey players with whom he cooperates. Calgary Fleimz’s General Manager came there, and Scout Toronto Malarchuk came. You may remember such a goalkeeper Clint Malarchuk, whom his throat cut off and he almost died, his brother was a scout. – You trained both in the USSR and in Ukraine, and then in North America. Was there a difference in approaches?
– Yes, very much. In those years, there were already emphasis on the style of “Butterfly” – more on their knees. And I played a hybrid style: on my feet and knees. A kind of alld-skul.
The 1990s are a transition period for goalkeepers. There is no need to have some style of the game in Miner and Liga and a little weaker leagues. The main thing is to catch the washer (smiles – note). In general, it does not matter what style you have, most importantly, catch the washer reliably.
In the US and Canada, they are very much versed in hockey. There were many Canadian coaches. Now the American has been pulled up, but the large majority was from Canada. They are very disassembled in hockey and it was always interesting to communicate with them, to train under their leadership.
In those years, I visited two NHL Camps: in Phoenix Coyotis and Nashville Predatorz. Nashville then only went to the NHL. Then I realized that goalkeeper coaches prefer the “Butterfly”. It was difficult to compete with other goalkeepers, because they were consistent with this new game model.

– No, there were no problems. We lived not in the hotel, but in the Olympic village, which was built on the basis of a university campus.
The territory was closed, borders, Triple. When you were brought there by bus then it was necessary to go through either two or three borders – You were checked. It was remembered. And in general, everything was very cool.
The cuisine from all over the world was most amazed. You could try anything you like – sushi, McDonald’s, different types of meat, fish. Someone saw something, someone – no. For us, people from the former USSR, it was something new.
It was interesting to meet old acquaintances – players with whom he once performed in the youth team of the USSR: Broe, Gonchar and others. It was nice to chat.
The discovery was also remembered. We stood in the cold in minus twenty, and there was a delay for two to three hours. But we were given special bags with helium for the hands and feet that heated. It helped to withstand the cold.
– The minimum defeat from Belarusians, victory over the Swiss and French, and then lose Latvia 2: 9. In an interview, you mentioned that the team had relaxed a little before the match with Latvia – they went shops, city. Has it affected the result? Maybe someone will disagree with me, but in my opinion, it was a problem of our whole hockey system. The Latvians were more professional. And it’s not just about that particular game. Look: It has been so many years and where is our national team now and where is the Latvia national team?
They have always been sports # 1. He was given attention, as well as basketball. Today, many Latvian players are in the NHL, the national team is steadily playing in the elite division, the youth also shows good results.
For us, those Olympics were the last lightning of Ukrainian hockey. It was necessary to build a system: to prepare a change, to approach the case organized. And the team composition did not change for 5-7 years. We even called ourselves a gang.
It should grow at least a point change, but it was not. Because since the early 1990s the system is simply not work shaft. You can even say it was not.

– I did not call anyone myself, but some guys called me. Especially from Ufa many guys called me. I do not know why so.
Another player called, I do not want to name his name. He is from Kazakhstan himself. He said, “Don’t worry, everything will be fine.” But he did not fully understand what was happening.
– There were many Russian players in the falcon before the war. How did they behave after a full -scale invasion?
– We took them out. I personally exported them on my car through checkpoints. At the beginning of the Great War we had 14 Russians.
Everyone was afraid – both we and they. They sat in apartments or in bomb shelves, we brought them food. And then two weeks later they began to export them. I remember traveling on Victory Avenue, and then there was a rocket. I have four Russians in the car and a bunch of block posts. And everyone asked for these passports. I was also worried, because they could ask me, “Listen, and who are you and who do you bring?”
But they managed to take them out. Someone left by train, someone with a car. Our defender, together with his wife, went to Germany and asked for political asylum. The other is to Romania.
Honestly, I don’t know where they are. Some left things in Kiev – they lie in my garage. But they do not write, so I do not know who found themselves.

I believe that for one or two years we will still go to the elite. We also play well. Ukrainian Hockey players are in the USA, Canada, Europe-and compete on the leading links of the top 7 hockey countries in the world.
As a result, many young boys went abroad. The main thing is that they are entrenched there, get the game time and progress. This will benefit and the national team. So I believe that success will be.

There is a war, there are difficulties, but our task as a hockey school is to attract as many children as possible. For example, a falcon does it very well. We have full groups, we have a crowded set, many children who want to play hockey.
In the falcon, all links are recruited. In the first team, in the youth, 2010 birth, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014. And throughout Ukraine, only Sokil has groups of 2012 and 2014.
There is also 2015, 2016. Last year, the recruitment ended in 2017. We are now recruiting in 2018. Each group of 25-30 children. Some are even more. Many want to do.
Unfortunately, there is a problem that has been since the 1990s – there is not enough ice. Many children and curly skating do. At the Athek Sports Complex on Chistyakovskaya 20, we accepted the skaters – and there is also a set there, children go. And there are no additional areas with ice.
Thank God, the school works. Babies are engaged. And when the time comes: playing here or going to Europe, then they decide with their parents themselves.
Last year, the Falcon youth became the champion of Ukraine. Now five to isThe 16-17-year-old boys went to the first team. We are very satisfied.

– Look, we have a communal school. The city provides everything you need to play in hockey. The city pays for ice lease, but just this ice is not enough, the form purchases.

Now we are engaged in the development of parachicketing. We were visited by the director Yulia Khan, saying that we would go out to the tender and the KSCA management would buy us this hood so that this fog is not permanent. Then they began to slowly collect more guys. I traveled on rehab it NTRI. Some go to us from Irpen, one of Bucha. The rehabilitation center where the boys is treated is helped by us.
