The team of researchers at the California Institute of Technology has developed a hybrid approach to storage of quantum information. Converting electrical signals to sound, They were able to store quantum states of superconducting cubes up to 30 times longer than in previous technologies.
Studies under the leadership of Associate Professor Mohammad Mirhosseyni were performed by graduate students Alkim Boskkccort and Ohmid Golamy. In the new method, the superconducting cubit on the chip is connected to a miniature mechanical oscillator made of flexible plates, which range from the action of sound waves at hygicher frequencies. This makes it possible to “record” the quantum state in memory in the form of oscillations of the oscillator and restore it later.

Measurements have shown that such oscillators store quantum information 30 times longer than the best super -conductive cubes today. In addition, acoustic waves spread much slower than electromagnetic, which allows you to create more compact devices and prevents energy leakage into space. This opens the way to integrate a large number of such “tunes” on one chip.
Mirhossene notes that the next step will be an increase in the rate of interaction between electromagnetic and acoustic waves by 3-10 times to ensure the introduction and reading of quantum data.
Recall that researchers from the Federal Higher Technical School of Zurich demonstrated the object in a “clean” quantum state without the need for a low -temperature environment.
