Details: The incident happened last week, on the night of August 5, but reported it only now. Estonian border guards noticed an attempt to cross the Narva River towards Russia on an inflatable mattress.

The man was caught up and detained, he was a 49-year-old citizen of Poland. During the search, he found pro -Russian symbolism. The investigation then found that he arrived in Estonia from Serbia and intended to join the ranks of the Russian army.

The man was taken into custody for at least 2 months and charged with the article on participation or support of the act of aggression committed by a foreign state.

“Accession to the army of the Russian Federation creates an indirect threat to the security of Estonia and all EU Member States … We will be held accountable and citizens of other countries trying to support the war of the Russian Federation,” said the chief prosecutor of the district prosecutor’s office, Vira Gardy Anderson.

The prosecutor’s office added that the case confirms the care of the border of Estonia with Russia, which is also an external EU border.
