Ukraine is one of the first to launch Starlink Direct to Cell technology – the ability to stay on a mobile network. On August 12, the first Viceremier – Minister of Digital Transformation Mikhail Fedorov – reported.

-Now technology is undergoing a beta test, and the official launch is planned this fall,-he wrote in his telegram.

The technology will cover 100% of the territory of Ukraine, assured on the published CEO video Kyivstar Alexander Komarov.

– Ukrainians will be able to remain in touch in hard -to -reach places: in the mountains, during bad weather, network failures or devices. The main condition for technology is the direct visibility of the sky, – Fedorov said.

The owners of 4G smartphones with SIM or ESIM card will be able to use satellite technology. Messages will be sent through SMS. Fedorov told the video that technology gives you the opportunity to forward audio and video. In addition, Fedorov noted that this technology is currently launched by the United States, Australia, Japan, Canada and New Zealand.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Sviridenko reported that during the war such technology is not only a matter of comfort but also safety when the enemy purposefully beats energy and communication, and individual communities run the risk of being in information isolation.

– Already in the fall of 2025, Kyivstar plans to launch the first stage – the opportunity to send SMS from the control point of Ukraine, – she said.

  • On February 28, 2022, Starlink’s terminals from SpaceX Ilona Maska arrived in Ukraine, giving access to satellite Internet.
  • On June 9, 2025, the Verkhovna Rada assured that no mobile connection was planned during air alarm.
