In addition, countries confirm that they do not have territorial claims to each other and will not make such claims in the future.
It is also agreed on the maintenance of force or threat to the use of force against territorial integrity or political independence.
According to the text, Armenia and Azerbaijan will refrain from interfering with each other’s internal affairs.
The countries also agreed to establish diplomatic relations.
Signatural countries will not deploy military forces of any third party along their common border.
Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to ensure that this Agreement is fully implemented and a bilateral commission to monitor its implementation.
Within one month after the entry into force of this Agreement, the parties must withdraw any interstate claims, complaints, appeals, proceedings and disputes submitted to any legal forum concerning the issues that existed between the parties before signing the agreement.
The Agreement shall enter into force on the moment of exchange of reports on the completion of internal procedures provided for by the national legislation of the signatory countries.
Prehistory:
- Azerbaijan and Armenia were actually in a state of war after declaring independence more than 30 years ago, and in 2020 and 2023, Azerbaijan returned control over Nagorny Karabakh as a result of hostilities.
- In March, the countries declared a significant breakthrough in the negotiations and completion of work on the project of a peace agreement. However, the terms of its signing have still remained uncertain.
- On August 8, Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nicol Pashinyan were signed in the White House in the presence of US President Donald Trump, which includes the creation of a transit corridor called “Trump’s Route for International Peace and Prosperity.”
