“The order to kill Anas Al-Sharif, one of the most bold journalists of Gaza, together with his colleagues, is a desperate attempt to suppress the votes on the eve of Gaza’s occupation,” Al Jazeera said.
A few minutes before his death, Al-Sharif wrote on social networks: “If this madness does not stop, the gas will be destroyed, the voices of its inhabitants will silence, their faces will disappear-and the story will remember you as silent witnesses of genocide, which you decide not to stop.”
According to the director of the hospital Mohammad Abu Salmia, Al-Shafar was in a tent with other journalists at the entrance to the al-Shif hospital when he was killed. According to Salmia, at least seven people were killed as a result of the blow.
The Israeli Defense Army (Tsakhal) accused Al-Sharif of Hamas, leadership in Gaza, which “carried out rocket firing of Israeli civilians and tsakhal troops.” Tsakhal had previously shown the documents that, according to the Israeli military, were “unambiguous proof” of al-Sharif’s ties with Hamas.
“Tsakhal has previously published intelligence information and many documents found in the Gaza sector, which confirm his military affiliation with Hamas,” the Israeli military statement said after a blow.
Last month, after the tsakhal accused Al-Sharif of belonging to Hamas, he answered in a report on social networks.
“I confirm: I, Anas Al-Shafar, is a journalist without political preferences. My only mission is to inform the truth from the scene-what it is, without prejudice,” he wrote. “At the time when the fatal famine is devastating gas, the truth in the eyes of the invaders became a threat.”
In July, the Committee on the Protection of Journalists (CPJ) stated that “seriously concerned” by the safety of Al-Sharif, and that the journalist feared for his life after he became the object of “Israeli military campaign for discreditation, which, in his opinion, is a prerequisite for his murder.” Since the beginning of the war, almost two years ago, according to CPJ, 186 journalists have died as a result of Israeli blows.
The United Nations also called Israel’s accusations against Al-Sharif “unjustified”.
Two weeks ago, Irene Khan, a special UN speaker on freedom of expression, said: “I am deeply concerned about recurring threats and accusations of the Israeli army against Anas al-Sharif … who survived in the northern part of Gas.”
Al-Shafar, whose account X has more than 500,000 subscribers on the X network, a few minutes before his death he posted for the post that “Israel is intensively bombarding the city of Gaza for more than two hours.”
