Details: According to the law, Ukrainians who will arrive in Germany from April 1, 2025 will no longer receive Burgergeld (“assistance for citizens”), instead they will pay less assistance to people seeking asylum.

It is estimated that the adoption of the law can reduce payments by 100 euros per month for every Ukrainian refugee in Germany.
This decision will affect at least 21,000 Ukrainians – just as many from April 1 to June 30, 2025.
The bill must yet be approved by the German government and the Upper Chamber of Parliament before it has come into force.
Recall:
- Germany has long been discussing what level of support Ukrainian refugees should receive. The government coalition agreed that for refugees who have arrived since April 1, assistance will be reduced.
- Bavaria Prime Minister and the leader of the Coalition Christian and Social Union, Marcus Zweider called to exclude from the program of raising the payments of all Ukrainian refugees, not just newcomers.
- But this idea has not been widely supported by his coalition partners.
