Details: It is expected that on Friday, August 8, the President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia will arrive at Washington for peace talks with the participation of the US President.

The meeting can be a turning point in a long -standing confrontation that arose after the collapse of the USSR due to a territorial conflict around Nagorno -Karabakh.
The region, inhabited mainly by ethnic Armenians, came out of control of Azerbaijan in the early 1990s, which caused a series of armed conflicts between the parties. In September 2023, the Azerbaijani troops returned the region under their control, forcing a large part of the Armenian population to leave the region.
Previous negotiations between the countries took place in July in the United Arab Emirates, but ended without declaring the final agreement. Nevertheless, officials have previously stated that the previous version of a peace treaty was developed.
