Former head of the Kherson Regional Administration, Vladislav Manger, who is accused of organizing an attack on the activist Kateryna Gandziuk, which led to her death, expressed his desire to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
This was reported by his defenders during the court hearing, writes Hromadske correspondent.
The lawyers filed a request for the adoption of Manger for the contract service in the shooting company of the 129th separate heavy mechanized brigade (military unit A7224).
Defenders stressed that the defendant would be able to participate in court sessions both personally and online. They also noted that there was no reason to strengthen the punishment, so the court may continue the case without its presence.
Lawyer Oleksandr Shadrin noted the urgent need to replenish military units and emphasized that Manger has experience in participation in the ATO. Lawyers are also convinced that the service will not create the risks of his escape or pressure on witnesses.
In turn, the prosecution party expressed doubts about the actual participation of Mannger in the ATO, and also recalled his previously stated health problems.
Manger himself in the courtroom stated that he has been in custody for five years, and his civic duty to defend the country. He added: “Sitting in comfort, eating and sleeping – is unacceptable for me. I am not guilty and ready to join the army immediately. “
He supported the expedition of the regional state administration and the former assistant to the deputy of the regional council Alexei Levin, who is also the person involved in the case of Gandziuk. Levin stated that Manger “chose war, not the will.”
During his speech, Levin spoke Russian, which provoked a reaction from the hall with a reminder: “The Ukrainian language is Ukrainian.”
Earlier in April, activists of the initiative “Who killed Katya Gandziuk?” It was reported that the command of the A7382 military unit (39th separate coast defense brigade) allegedly invited Manger to service. The Ministry of Defense has declared a willingness to terminate such a procedure if it was in investigation.
At the same time, the team itself denied information about sending the appropriate call.
During the court, the representative of the victims read the letter of the Ministry of Defense, which, according to Manger’s lawyers, was signed by the former Minister of Defense Rustem Umerov.
In the end, the court refused to grant the petition to accept Vladislav Mannger for military service.
The suspect of the attack on the activist Kateryna Gandziuk, the chairman of the Kherson Regional Council, Vladislav Manger, lost an appeal to the decision about his arrest. In court, he stated that the case against him was fabricated by the SBU.
